March...April...May...

As I've previously said, I kept notes about spring hours on the Stickies application. :)  It kept me accountable because I saw it EVERY day at the beginning, middle, and end of the day.

March's total hours was:
Hours:  164.75

Notes on this--
1. Spring Break!
2. PAWS testing for our students meant that I did less work to be graded in the classroom.  I wanted to keep it low key.
3.  I had a week I didn't record. Therefore, 40 hours was calculated for that week.

April's totals:
Hours: 190.75

Notes on this:
1.  Good Friday was a no school day, but otherwise, no days off.
2.  My father-in-law passed away at the end of April and on the 30th it was a long day of lesson plan writing for the funeral the following day.

May's totals:
Hours: 166.25

Notes on this:
1.  The last two weeks of school have WAY less preparation. :)
2.  After students' last day, teachers do come in to clean, etc.

END OF FEBRUARY RESULTS...

END OF FEBRUARY (including November and December)
Total hours worked this year: 1258.5 hours
Salary for the year: $44,784
I'm making: $35.58 per hour

PLUS March/April/May's 521.75 hours!

DRUMROLL...if you please....
Total hours worked this year: 1780.25
Salary for the year: $44,784
I'm making:    $25.15 per hour

Now.  Is that a bad salary? Heck No! It's very nice and I'm comfortable with it.  The problem I see is that I'm paid to work 37 weeks at 40 hours per week.  That's 1480 hours at about $30.25 per hour.

I work (with a CONSERVATIVE estimate) 300 hours MORE than that in an average year.  Not saying I can't get by, but really, If I got paid PER HOUR, I'd have made $53,869 this year.  That's all, of course, not including the fact that I have already worked a bit this summer and will be back to work WELL before summer is over.

I may do this again this year just to see if I'm working less/more/the same as I get more experience. :)

Trying to Recap all this maddness. :)

As you know, I've been trying to keep track of my hours, but I kind of failed in November and December.  I FINALLY (today) went back and looked through my lesson plan book to compile and add up the hours I had recorded and to add in a minimum 8 hour day to the days whose hours I did not record.  If you've looked at ANY other posts on here you'll see that I VERY RARELY work less than an 8 hour day.  That's why I've chosen to insert 8 hours on days that I neglected to write down this school year.

The total for October 31 through December 22 was 305 hours.  Really, that's way less than I typically would work in a two month period for a few reasons.

1.  There are lots of holidays in there and even though I generally work on at least one day of a holiday break, I do work less.
2.  My grandfather got sick on November 2 and passed away on the 11th.  I, therefore, tried to spend a lot of time at home and talking with my family. I was a bit distracted from school.
3.  I took three days off to attend the funeral 400 miles away.  From November 16-18 I was not in my classroom.
4.  I took a sick day on December 16.

Now, the absences almost make up for themselves in planning time for a sub.  Truly, I probably spend at MINIMUM two hours prepping for an absence.

Alright, so how does all of this affect the hours?

I'm going to add the hours to the last total I did...at the end of February. Yikes.

END OF FEBRUARY (minus November/December)...
Total hours worked this year: 953.5 hours
Salary for the year: $44,784
I'm making: $46.97 per hour

END OF FEBRUARY (including November and December)
Total hours worked this year: 1258.5 hours
Salary for the year: $44,784
I'm making: $35.58 per hour

Pretty sure that the average nurse makes this PER HOUR that she works in a year...

sigh.

Behind. Duh.

Woah.  Seriously behind in this. :(

I have been keeping track--hence the stickies on my desktop-

but it's been totally insane.  School always kicks my butt in the spring, but this spring has been particularly challenging.  Can't tell if it's the kids, or the fact that I have a dog, or that I'm trying to train for a run or what.  No matter, I'm in the process of counting it all up.  As I've said before, all days that I don't know, I just give the minimum hours...7:30-3:00 (7.5 hours)...just to be fair to the system.  I can guarantee that I've worked more than than EVERY day, but if I can't give specifics, I go with what I know. :)

Let's at LEAST add in February, shall we?  I still own November and December.  At this point, those days are going to be almost SURELY the minimum hours...except for those few days I tracked in my plan book :)

Total February hours...198

Total hours worked this year: 953.5 hours
Salary for the year: $44,784
I'm making: $46.97 per hour

With two and a half months left (March/April/May) and not having counted November/December yet, I'm looking fairly sad on the hourly wage by the end of all this, I think...

January Recap!

I know that I've still go to actually add in November and December's hours. Oy.

But, January is finished and I've totaled the hours to add to the previous end of October results. :)

Below is a picture of the desktop of my computer with the sticky of all the hours.  As you might be able to tell, some days I work in little spurts (Saturdays/Sunday) while work days are sometimes super long. I'm trying to be better about working a little at the end of the day to make the morning easier and then grading a bit later in the evening or on the weekend.  The unit we were doing in January was (thankfully) quite similar to the way we taught it last year, so I didn't have nearly as much planning to do as general. :) Thank goodness for small things.

My total hours worked in January was 209.   I'll add this to the previous total hours worked from October....
Total hours worked this year: 755.5 hours
Salary for the year: $44,784
I'm making: $59.28 per hour

Definitely the monthly total makes a more clear impact than the daily or even weekly total.  I'm starting a new sticky today and will try to update the November/December months before February is over, but if I don't get to it, Spring Break is about a month away.  :)  Perhaps that would be a good project.  Like I think I've said before, if I can't remember what I worked, I'll just go with the minimum (7:30-3:00) and call it good. I don't want to skew the numbers.  Some days, though, I wrote down the work I did in my planning book so those weeks will be spot on. :)

Wow...New plan.

So, obviously it's been forever, but I wanted to show you what my desktop looks like now so that you can see how I'm keeping track of hours of late.  It's FASTER than blogging AND I'm thinking this way it'll be a monthly total--I can still copy and paste the days and hours in, but it'll be much less time PER DAY spent doing it.

I've got a "Stickies" application sticky up on the desktop of my computer and I'm just recording days and times that I work. I've been doing well at keeping up with it...especially compared to last month and the month of October. Ay ay ay.

At the end of January I'll do the full January recap, but before that I'll try to update on the months that I was absent.  I pretty much know what i was up to since my husband is a coach and my work schedule was pretty much opposite his in the evenings.

For now I'll just let you know:  my teaching partner is on maternity leave so I'm working with a sub while she's out--until April.  I love this sub lady, but I never realized how many things there are to tell someone who isn't in their own classroom every day.  It's a bit crazy ALLLLL the stuff teachers know and have in their toolbox. :)

Catching up....

*blushing*

Obviously it was a busy week. I haven't taken a "day off" since lat Sunday.

Tuesday: Worked 7:00-4:00 9 hours.  Came home and planned/created for an additional hour.  10 total.

Wednesday:  Worked 7:15-4:00.  8.75 hours.  I can't remember working that evening, so I can't write it down in good conscience.

Thursday:  Worked 7:15-4:30.  9.25 hours.

Friday:  Worked 7:15-3:00.  I was at work until 8:30 in the evening working with my student group, but, again, since I get additional pay for that, I won't include those hours.   7.75 hours.

Saturday 1 hour meeting with coworker.  Then an evening assignment creation session for an hour.  2 hours total.

Today I worked for 2 hours grading and 1.5 hours planning/creating.  3.5 hours total.

Total Tuesday through Sunday:  42.25 hours worked
Total hours worked this year: 546.50 hours
Salary for the year: $44,784
I'm making: $81.95 per hour

I'll try to keep this a bit more up to date this week.  I'll have A TON of after school hours spent grading FOR SURE!!!  I've got constructed responses to grade tomorrow as well as some essays to get finished.  In class tomorrow I'm just using a bit of Poe to creep them out. :)
